A recent study conducted at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) evaluated the use of infrared thermography as a noninvasive tool for monitoring free flaps in plastic surgery. The researchers found that infrared thermography was able to detect flap compromise before it became clinically evident, with a sensitivity of 88.6% and a specificity of 98.9%. This study suggests that infrared thermography could be a valuable adjunct to clinical monitoring in free flap surgery. Further information on this research can be found in the Indian Journal of Plastic Surgery. [Extracted from the article] |
