Researchers at Southwest Medical University in Luzhou, China have discovered that an extract from the plant Penthorum chinense Pursh (PEE) has inhibitory effects on ferroptosis, a type of cell death associated with Alzheimer's disease (AD). The study used cellular and Caenorhabditis elegans models of AD to examine the effects of PEE. The extract was found to reduce cell death, oxidative stress, and mitochondrial damage, and improve cognitive function in the models. These findings suggest that PEE could be a potential candidate for intervention in AD. [Extracted from the article] |
