A recent study conducted at Duke University School of Medicine in Durham, North Carolina, has found that racial disparities exist in healthcare outcomes for orthopaedic trauma surgery patients. The study examined the impact of race, social deprivation, and payor status on 90-day emergency department revisits. The results showed that Black race and Medicaid coverage were significantly associated with higher odds of returning to the emergency department compared to non-Black or non-Medicaid-covered patients. The study highlights the need for further research to understand the root causes of these disparities and evaluate interventions to reduce them. [Extracted from the article] |
