A report from the Federal University of Rondonia (UNIR) discusses the increased incidence and mortality rates of Listeria monocytogenes infection in Spain. The study analyzed hospitalizations with a diagnosis of Listeria monocytogenes from 2000 to 2021 and found that the rate of hospitalizations has risen significantly during this period. The increase in admissions and deaths was primarily driven by the growing proportion of elderly and immunosuppressed patients. The study also noted that a foodborne outbreak in Andalusia and the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdowns had an impact on the number of hospitalizations. [Extracted from the article] |
