A recent study conducted at BJ Medical College in Gujarat, India, explored the use of sildenafil as a treatment for Persistent Pulmonary Hypertension of the Newborn (PPHN). PPHN is characterized by high pulmonary artery pressure and is typically treated with inhaled nitric oxide (iNO), which may not be available in resource-limited settings. The study found that oral sildenafil can effectively improve oxygenation in neonates with PPHN, offering a low-cost alternative in settings where other treatments like iNO are not accessible. The findings suggest that sildenafil could be a valuable option for managing PPHN in resource-limited areas. [Extracted from the article] |
