Abstrakt: This article provides an overview of the genome variation in the Batrachochytrium pathogens of amphibians, specifically Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis (Bd) and Batrachochytrium salamandrivorans (Bsal). Bd is a generalist pathogen that infects all orders of amphibians worldwide, while Bsal primarily infects salamanders and newts in Europe and Asia. The genomes of these pathogens differ in terms of length, ploidy, and the presence of repetitive DNA. Both pathogens encode expanded gene families involved in host invasion and virulence. The article also highlights the need for further research on gene regulation, host-range, and the genetic interactions of these pathogens. [Extracted from the article]
