Abstrakt: During World War II, Birmingham was heavily bombed by the Luftwaffe. Two reconnaissance missions were launched by the Germans to photograph the damage caused by the bombings, but one aircraft was shot down by Hurricane pilots and the other crashed upon its return. The bombings caused significant damage to the city's industrial installations. In a separate incident, a German aircraft conducting a reconnaissance mission over Birmingham and Bristol was attacked by Hurricane fighters, but the German crew managed to escape and make a wheels-up landing in Ireland. The RAF pilots claimed damage in their combat reports. [Extracted from the article]
