The article discusses the use of ambulatory impedance-pH assessment as the industry standard for assessing gastroesophageal reflux (GER) in infants, children, and adults. The authors highlight the benefits of ambulatory testing, such as allowing patients to be in their natural environment and reducing costs. However, they also point out potential problems that can arise, such as displacement of the catheter, damage to equipment, and inaccurate data entry. The authors suggest that not every patient is a suitable candidate for ambulatory testing and recommend consulting with social work or behavioral health colleagues before choosing the testing format.
