The article discusses the discord between the law and medical practice regarding the determination of death by neurologic criteria (DNC). The authors argue for aligning the law with medical practice through "neurorespiratory criteria," while the American College of Physicians (ACP) disagrees and believes that medical practice should align with the law. The key area of disagreement is whether loss of neuroendocrine regulation should be required to determine DNC. The authors also highlight the lack of a validated medical process for evaluating the loss of neuroendocrine regulation. The ACP is urged to clarify their position on how practice should change to align with the law. [Extracted from the article] |
