Abstrakt: Stornoway, located in Murrumbateman, north of Canberra, is an exemplary example of organic residential architecture designed by Laurie Virr. Completed in 1999, the house showcases Virr's deep understanding of the human need for connection to place. The design prioritizes the path of the sun throughout the day and emphasizes a connection to the natural world. Stornoway is a retreat and peaceful domestic domicile, with a bold brick form that provides shelter and protection. The house was built by master builder Bill Kalenjuk and features timberwork crafted onsite by the client. Stornoway embodies Virr's belief that a house should be a work of art that restores the body and spirit. [Extracted from the article]
