This article explores the use of technology-enhanced audience interaction in medical education to promote active learning. Active learning has been found to improve attentiveness, enjoyment, and knowledge retention, but it can also cause anxiety in large group settings. Technology-enhanced audience interaction provides a solution by allowing participation with anonymity, creating a supportive learning environment. The article discusses considerations for selecting software programs for audience interaction, such as presentation objectives, learner participation, and software characteristics. It also highlights virtual whiteboard platforms like Miro, Padlet, FigJam, and LucidSpark, as well as the integration of presentation tools like PowerPoint and Keynote. However, the article cautions about potential distractions, technology failures, and subscription costs.
