This article discusses the use of scoring systems to predict outcomes in critically ill elderly patients. The study found that both the Mortality Prediction Model (MPM0-III) and Simplified Acute Physiologic Score (SAPS 3) performed well in predicting mortality. The article emphasizes the importance of accurate prognostic tools for the aging population and the need for specialized medical care for older adults. Another document compares survivors and non-survivors in an ICU and found differences in comorbidities, length of stay, and mortality rates. The study concludes that the scoring systems can be useful in predicting mortality in the ICU. Additionally, there are lists of references to various research articles that discuss the performance and validation of prognostic scores in critically ill patients, particularly in the elderly population. These studies provide valuable insights into prognosis and outcomes, helping to improve patient care. [Extracted from the article] |
