A systematic review conducted by researchers at the Polytechnic University of Marche in Ancona, Italy, evaluated the efficacy of pudendal nerve neurolysis (PNN) in treating urogenital and rectal disorders in patients with pudendal nerve entrapment (PNE). The study found that PNN improved lower urinary tract symptoms, anal and/or urinary incontinence, and sexual dysfunctions. The most common site of nerve entrapment was the Alcock canal, and PNN was effective in improving urgency and voiding symptoms, as well as urinary and anal incontinence. It also resulted in improvements in erectile function and relief of persistent genital arousal disorder in women. The study concluded that PNN is a viable option for addressing these symptoms with minimal postoperative complications. [Extracted from the article] |
