A study conducted by researchers at Ain Shams University in Egypt examined the outcome of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in patients with metabolic-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD). The study compared the prognosis and survival rates of patients with MAFLD-related HCC to those with HCV-related HCC. The results showed no significant difference in the outcome or survival rates between the two groups, except for the levels of alpha-fetoprotein (AFP), which were higher in HCV patients. This study is the first of its kind in Egypt and Africa, and further research is needed to fully understand the nature and outcome of MAFLD-related HCC. [Extracted from the article] |
