A recent study conducted by Central South University in Hunan, China, explored the psychological distress experienced by gastrointestinal (GI) cancer patients and its association with their quality of life. The study found that psychological distress is prevalent among GI cancer patients, with a higher proportion of females experiencing clinically relevant distress compared to males. The quality of life was negatively associated with psychological distress, particularly among males. The researchers suggest that healthcare providers should pay attention to the psychological distress of GI cancer patients, especially females, and future interventions should be gender-specific.
