A recent study conducted at Halu Oleo University in Indonesia focused on the classification and discrimination of red snapper fish oils (RSFOs) using Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and pattern recognition techniques. The researchers found that the FTIR vibrations in the RSFOs indicated the presence of triglycerides as the main composition. Through principal component analysis (PCA) and supervised pattern recognition techniques, the study successfully classified and discriminated different species of red snapper fish oils obtained from various origins. The researchers concluded that FTIR spectroscopy combined with pattern recognition techniques has the potential to be a rapid and effective method for fish oil authentication and quality verification.
