A recent study conducted by researchers from Khon Kaen University examined the outcomes of revision total hip arthroplasty (THA) for instability. The study found that even after revision surgery, some patients continued to experience recurrent dislocation. Risk factors for recurrent dislocation included a high American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) grade, being overweight, previous lumbopelvic fusion, the use of specialized liners, and postoperative abductor weakness. Increasing the size of the acetabular component by more than 1 mm was found to decrease the risk of dislocation. The study concluded that patients requiring revision THA for instability are at risk of recurrent dislocation and identified several significant risk factors. [Extracted from the article] |
