A report from Ondokuz Mayis University in Samsun, Turkey discusses the technique of laparoscopic peritoneal dialysis catheter placement in children with concurrent omentopexy. Omentectomy, the removal of the omentum, is commonly recommended during catheter insertion to prevent obstruction. However, omentopexy, which spares the omentum, may be preferred in children to preserve an organ that may be needed for future surgical procedures. The study found that while catheter loss was higher in the omentopexy group, it was not related to the omentopexy procedure but rather to a higher rate of previous abdominal operations. The research concludes that laparoscopic peritoneal dialysis catheter placement with omentopexy is a feasible and reproducible technique. [Extracted from the article] |
