A recent study conducted in Gujarat, India, explored the connection between periodontal disease and macular degeneration. The study involved 200 participants and found that factors such as advanced age, limited education, low income, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, and hepatitis B surface antigen presence were strongly linked to macular degeneration. The research concluded that there is a connection between periodontitis in the mouth and macular degeneration in individuals under 60 years of age.
