A recent study conducted by researchers at Kyung Hee University Hospital in South Korea has provided new insights into pterygium, a common inflammatory condition of the conjunctiva. The study collected RNA-seq data from pterygial tissues and conjunctival tissues from six patients, as well as publicly available data from eight pterygium samples and eight controls. The researchers found an association between inflammatory responses, oxidative stress, and pterygium development. Additionally, they observed differences in gene expression and stress responses between Asian and European pterygiums. This research contributes to a better understanding of the pathogenesis of pterygium and may have implications for its prevention and treatment. [Extracted from the article] |
