Abstrakt: A recent study conducted by researchers at the Institute of Respiratory Diseases in Bari, Italy, explores the role of galectins in asthma pathophysiology. Galectins are a group of proteins that play a role in immune response, cellular adhesion, and inflammation development. The study found that galectins, particularly galectin-3, galectin-9, and galectin-10, are involved in various aspects of asthma, including inflammation, mucus production, airway responsiveness, and bronchial remodeling. These galectins have also shown potential as biomarkers for monitoring clinical response to treatments such as inhaled corticosteroids and biologic therapies. Further research is needed to fully understand the implications of galectins in asthma. [Extracted from the article]
