The studies in the book analyze factors such as social status, gender, dialect region, and geographical proximity in relation to language variation. The use of corpus linguistics and statistical techniques is highlighted in analyzing the data. Specific chapters focus on preposition omission, the use of the complex conjunction "and that too" in South Asian Englishes, the evolution of the American colloquial expression "my bad," a new algorithmic method for analyzing social media data, and the effects of L1 rhythm on the production of English by ESL speakers.
