Abstrakt: In the present study, a rapid and simple approach was used for the synthesis of silver nanoparticles using Houttuynia cordata plant extract. The biomolecules present in the plant extract acts both as a reducing agent and a capping agent. To identify the compounds responsible for the reduction of silver ions, the functional groups present in the plant extract were investigated by FTIR. Various techniques were used to characterize the synthesized silver nanoparticles such as UV-Visible spectrophotometry, SEM and XRD. The UV-Vis spectrophotometer showed an absorbance peak at 429 nm. SEM analysis showed the average particle size of the Hc-AgNPs, which ranged from 15 nm to 100 nm. The XRD pattern showed the characteristic Bragg peaks of (111), (200), (220) and (311) planes of the face center cubic (FCC) AgNPs. XRD analysis verified the crystalline nature and presence of silver in the synthesized nanoparticles. The results confirm this protocol as a simple, rapid, one-step, eco-friendly, non-toxic and alternative to conventional physical/chemical methods, without the involvement of any hazardous chemicals.
