Abstrakt: The aim of the study was to determine the nature of successful elite netball teams and the centre pass attacking strategies that lead to entry into the goal circle. The study is a cross sectional sports analytics study, analysing every pass from the centre pass through to goal circle entry (N = 1045) across two Suncorp Super Netball games. Variables measured team rank, player position, scoreboard position, phase outcome, defensive pressure, pass type, pass direction, pass height, pass release location, and pass release channel. Teams on the top half of the leader board entered the goal circle from 72.4% of their centre passes. 80.3% of passes in the attacking goal third enter the goal circle and are likely to occur on the right side of the court (N = 238, SR = 1.2) (χ2 (4) = 13.9, p < 0.008). Wing attack and goal attack players are associated with both the attacking goal third and the right-hand side of the court. Active defensive pressure is most prevalent (68.7% of passes) on the right side of the court. The findings suggest that ability to enter the goal circle is an indicator of success in elite netball teams. To enter the goal circle, teams should prioritise entering the attacking goal third where their wing attack and goal attack should utilise the right-hand side of the court to deliver the ball into the goal circle.
