Abstrakt: This letter discusses the phenomenon of high serum total vitamin B12 levels masking biologically active B12 deficiency. The authors explain that while total B12 assays measure both biologically active and inactive forms of B12, active B12 assays only measure the biologically active form. They found that hypervitaminosis total B12 can coexist with functional B12 deficiency, particularly in patients with malignant diseases. The authors suggest that active B12 is a more reliable biomarker for assessing vitamin B12 status in individuals with cancer. [Extracted from the article]
