A recent study conducted at Technical University Munich (TU Munich) in Germany examined the effectiveness of intraoperative wound irrigation in preventing surgical site infections after laparotomy. The study involved a multicenter, randomized clinical trial with 689 participants. The results showed that irrigation with polyhexanide solution did not reduce the incidence of surgical site infections compared to saline irrigation or no irrigation. The researchers suggest that further clinical trials are needed to evaluate the potential benefits in contaminated and septic procedures. [Extracted from the article] |
