A study conducted at Beijing University of Chinese Medicine investigated the mechanism of action of Wuzi Yanzong pill (WYP) in treating rats with oligoasthenozoospermia (OAZ) using metabolomics. The researchers established a rat model of OAZ and treated the rats with WYP for 4 weeks. They assessed sperm cell quality, mitochondrial membrane potential, and testicular injury to evaluate the therapeutic effect of WYP. The study found that WYP improved sperm cell quality and mitochondrial membrane potential primarily through autophagy regulation.
