A recent study conducted by researchers at the Division of Nuclear Medicine aimed to evaluate the efficacy of different doses of radioactive iodine (RAI) in the treatment of Graves' disease. The study included 106 patients receiving 20 mCi of RAI and compared them to a retrospective group of 113 patients receiving 10-15 mCi of RAI. The results showed that the higher dosage of RAI (20 mCi) led to a significantly higher remission rate compared to the lower dosage (10-15 mCi). However, hypothyroidism was more prevalent in the 20 mCi group. The study concluded that higher dosage RAI showed superior efficacy in achieving remission in Graves' disease treatment.
