A recent report from Ben-Gurion University of the Negev in Israel describes a new method for quantifying the drug etoricoxib in low plasma volumes. The researchers developed an ultra-performance liquid chromatography with photodiode array (UPLC-PDA) UV detection method that is simple, rapid, selective, and sensitive. The method involves protein precipitation, liquid-liquid extraction, evaporation, and reconstitution. The researchers found that the method was successful in a pharmacokinetic study in rats and concluded that it is a time- and cost-efficient method for drug monitoring in pre-clinical and clinical settings.
