Abstrakt: A recent study published in the journal Viruses provides new data on smallpox vaccines. The study aimed to evaluate the presence of antibodies specific to the vaccinia virus (VV) after at least 45 years from immunization and to determine if these antibodies can neutralize the mpox virus (MPXV) in vitro. The researchers found that individuals who had been vaccinated against smallpox or had recently recovered from an MPXV infection had detectable levels of VV-specific antibodies and showed the ability to neutralize MPXV in vitro. The study also suggested a potential role of polyclonal non-specific activation in maintaining immunologic memory. [Extracted from the article]
