A research study conducted at the General Hospital of Western Theater Command in Chengdu, China, has found that metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) is a valuable tool for diagnosing infectious diseases in hematological patients with high-risk febrile neutropenia. The study compared the diagnostic efficacy of mNGS with conventional microbiological tests and found that mNGS identified a significantly higher number of pathogens. This led to adjustments in anti-infective treatment strategies for over half of the patients. The findings suggest that mNGS of plasma cfDNA can improve the early detection of pathogens and optimize anti-infective therapies in this patient population. [Extracted from the article] |
