Abstrakt: | A study conducted at Federal University Pernambuco in Brazil has discovered a new antimicrobial peptide called ocellatin-VT in the skin secretion of Leptodactylus vastus, a type of frog. The peptide was found to be active against both non-resistant and multidrug-resistant bacteria, particularly inhibiting the growth of Gram-negative bacteria such as Acinetobacter baumannii and Escherichia coli. Ocellatin-VT showed low toxicity to melanoma cells and minimal hemolytic activity. This research contributes to the ongoing efforts to find new drug candidates to combat antimicrobial resistance.
