A recent report from Aarhus University Hospital in Denmark discusses research findings on vascular dementia. The study aimed to determine the relationship between diabetes, coronary artery disease (CAD), and the risk of developing dementia. The researchers found that patients with both diabetes and CAD had the highest risk of developing all-cause dementia, including Alzheimer's dementia and vascular dementia. This suggests that the risk of dementia in diabetes patients is partly influenced by the presence of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. The study highlights the importance of preventing cardiovascular disease in diabetes patients to reduce cognitive decline. [Extracted from the article] |
