Abstrakt: A study conducted by researchers at Shanghai University in China has found that overconsumption of sodium is a major factor contributing to cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). The study aimed to estimate the burden of CVDs related to high sodium intake (HSI) in China from 1990 to 2019. The research revealed that in 2019, 0.79 million deaths and 1.93 million disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) were attributed to HSI, representing an increase of 53.91% and 39.39% since 1990, respectively. The study also found a downward trend in age-standardized mortality rate (ASMR) and age-standardized DALY rate (ASDR) over time. The burden of HSI-induced CVDs was found to be gender-, age-, and socioeconomic-dependent. The researchers suggest that integrated and targeted strategies for CVD prevention are needed in China.
