A recent study conducted by investigators at the Department of Pathology in Royal Oak, Michigan, explored the role of bone marrow biopsy (BMB) in the diagnosis of monoclonal gammopathy of renal significance (MGRS). MGRS is a condition characterized by renal monoclonal protein deposition (RMPD) and is often a reason for nephrologists to obtain a BMB. The study analyzed 130 kidney biopsies with RMPD and found that BMB is an important element in confirming MGRS. The findings suggest that BMB evaluation is crucial in the workup for MGRS.
