A study conducted at Zhongshan People's Hospital in Guangdong, China, has found that monitoring the tumor content in circulating cell-free DNA (ccfDNA) can be useful in tracking the progression of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), a type of liver cancer. The study included 67 HCC patients with hepatitis B virus (HBV) and 90 controls. The researchers found that high tumor content in ccfDNA was associated with advanced tumor stage and poor survival after HCC diagnosis. The study suggests that analyzing tumor content in ccfDNA may help in monitoring HCC earlier than clinical diagnosis and predicting patient prognosis. [Extracted from the article] |
