Abstrakt: | A new study conducted by researchers at the University Medical Center in New Orleans examines the impact of generator-related burn injuries and carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning during a region-wide disaster. The study analyzes data gathered from Emergency Medical Services (EMS) provider agencies during Hurricane Ida's landfall. The findings suggest that empowering EMS providers to treat smaller burn injuries and mild CO exposures on the scene during a disaster event can alleviate strain on area hospitals. The study highlights the collaboration between a verified burn center and the EMS community in responding to natural disasters. [Extracted from the article] |
