Abstrakt: Scientists at the University of Surrey have developed a new technique that allows them to study the fatty contents of cancer cells on an individual basis. By using a system called the Single Cellome System SS2000, the researchers were able to extract single live cancer cells and measure the fatty lipid compounds inside them. They then used a mass spectrometer to fragment the lipids and analyze their composition. The study found that different cells had different lipid profiles and that the lipids in the cells changed in response to their environment. The research was published in the journal Analytical Chemistry. [Extracted from the article]
