Amazon has been conducting covert operations to gather intelligence on its competitors since 2015. The company used a fake company called Big River Services International to spy on rivals' online platforms. Amazon employees disguised as Big River staff disseminated reports to Amazon executives using printed copies instead of email to avoid detection. While undercover research on competitors is legal, misrepresenting oneself to competitors can lead to legal trouble.
