A study conducted by the University of Technology in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, explores the challenges faced by smallholders in adopting the Roundtable Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) certification under the Sabah Sustainable Palm Oil Initiative. The study found that smallholders face difficulties in complying with RSPO standards, as well as issues related to land tenure, low financial and knowledge capacities, increasing food insecurity, and unstable market prices. The researchers argue that the certification policy exacerbates inequalities among smallholder groups in different districts and call for fair resource allocation to empower marginalized groups. The study has been peer-reviewed and provides valuable insights into sustainable food and agriculture in Malaysia. [Extracted from the article] |
