Abstrakt: Researchers from NTNU-Norwegian University of Science and Technology have conducted a genome-wide association study on 57 essential and non-essential trace elements in humans. The study aimed to understand the genetic factors that influence the uptake, distribution, metabolism, and excretion of trace elements. The researchers identified 11 novel genetic loci associated with blood concentrations of arsenic, cadmium, manganese, selenium, and zinc. The study also found weak to moderate effects of increased zinc on prostate cancer. However, further validation is needed to establish the consequences of trace elements on human health.
