A recent study conducted by researchers at Tabriz University of Medical Sciences investigated the role of a specific gene variant (rs1884444) in the development of ankylosing spondylitis (AS) in the Iranian population. The study analyzed the distribution of alleles and genotypes of rs1884444 in a group of 425 AS patients and 400 matched controls. The researchers found no significant association between the gene variant and susceptibility to AS in the Iranian population. However, they did observe a positive correlation between the expression level of the gene and disease severity in AS patients. This research provides new insights into the genetic factors involved in AS and highlights the potential role of the IL-23/IL-23R signaling cascade in inflammation and the development of the disease.
