Abstrakt: | A recent report from the University of Toronto discusses the association between amniotic fluid viral load and fetal injury in congenital cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection. The researchers conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of studies that compared outcomes of fetuses with congenital CMV and provided information on individual patient CMV viral load. The findings suggest that a higher viral load in the amniotic fluid is associated with a greater risk of prenatal injury. However, there was no significant difference in viral load between symptomatic and asymptomatic babies with congenital CMV. Further research is needed to better understand the relationship between viral load and fetal outcomes in CMV infection. [Extracted from the article] |
