Abstrakt: A recent study conducted by researchers at the University of Foggia in Italy explored the relationship between neuroticism and perinatal depressive symptoms. The study involved a sample of 2,631 pregnant women who were assessed for depressive symptoms and associated risk factors during their third trimester of pregnancy and after childbirth. The findings revealed that higher levels of neuroticism were significantly associated with higher scores of depressive symptoms, higher anxiety in close relationships, lower psychological well-being, lower levels of resilience and active coping, and higher levels of self-blame. The researchers suggest that neuroticism should be routinely assessed in the clinical screening of pregnant women to promote early referral to psychological or psychiatric support services.
