A study conducted by Tianjin Medical University in China explored the association between urinary arsenic species and vitamin D deficiency (VDD) in Chinese pregnant women. The researchers measured different urinary arsenic species and serum vitamin D levels in 391 pregnant women. The study found positive correlations between certain arsenic species, particularly arsenite (As3+) and monomethylarsonic acid (MMA), and VDD. However, negative correlations were observed between other arsenic species and VDD. Further research is needed to understand the mechanisms underlying these associations.
