A recent study conducted by the College of Veterinary Science in Guwahati, Assam, India, investigated the prevalence of Sarcoptes mite infestation in dogs. The study found that 1.89% of the 582 dogs examined were infected with Sarcoptes scabiei var. canis. The researchers also observed histopathological changes in the affected skin, including vacuolation, degenerative changes, and necrosis.
