Abstrakt: A study conducted by researchers from Tohoku University in Sendai, Japan, aimed to analyze the mechanism behind the discoloration of dental zirconia ceramics when exposed to ultraviolet (UV) irradiation. The study found that UV irradiation caused an increase in color alteration in the ceramics, which was attributed to the excitation of F centers. The discoloration gradually decreased over time, but caution should be exercised during clinical procedures involving UV irradiation to avoid damaging the aesthetics of dental restorations. The research was supported by Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research. [Extracted from the article]
