A systematic review and meta-analysis conducted by researchers at Universidad Privada Franz Tamayo in La Paz, Bolivia compared the efficacy and safety of general anesthesia (GA) versus conscious sedation (CS) in patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS) undergoing mechanical thrombectomy (MT). The study included eight randomized controlled trials (RCTs) with a total of 1,300 patients. The results showed that while recanalization success was higher in the GA group, there were no significant differences between the two groups in terms of good functional recovery, three-month mortality, incidence of pneumonia, or cerebral hemorrhage. This research suggests that GA and CS have similar outcomes for patients undergoing MT for AIS. [Extracted from the article] |
