A study conducted by researchers at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science has found that breast pain is a common concern among women in primary care clinics. The study also highlights Mondor's disease (MD) as a rare cause of breast pain. MD is characterized by an acute, painful, cord-like induration on the breast or anterior chest wall, caused by sclerosing superficial thrombophlebitis. The disease does not appear to have a racial or ethnic propensity, but may be more difficult to detect in darker skin types. The study emphasizes the importance of recognizing MD as a potential cause of breast pain and its association with hypercoagulable state, vasculitis, and breast cancer. [Extracted from the article] |
