Researchers at Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine have published a report on the role of irisin in apoptosis, specifically in relation to muscle atrophy and fibrosis. The study found that irisin, the cleaved form of fibronectin type III domain-containing protein 5 (FNDC5), can alleviate primary sarcopenia. The researchers explored the effect of irisin on d-galactose-induced apoptosis in skeletal muscle fibroblasts and C2C12 myoblasts, and found that irisin suppressed C2C12 cell apoptosis and promoted fibroblast apoptosis by increasing caveolin-1 expression. The findings suggest that irisin could be a potential treatment for age-related muscle atrophy and fibrosis. [Extracted from the article] |
